Finding a psychologist who is a good fit, especially at the time of emotional crisis can be challenging. To find someone who is empathic, but also direct and firm, who is not afraid to call you out when you most need it, someone who understands the real life challenges of being a parent, teen, or young adult and who approaches challenges with a sense of humor and compassion, someone who has the right training, expertise, and schedule, can be daunting, to say the least.
Dr. Lana Krichmar is a New York State Licensed Clinical Psychologist whose style is compassionate and direct. She is trained in Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral (CBT/DBT) therapy approaches. Dr. Krichmar has extensive experience and expertise working with clients struggling with peer relationships and/or dating issues, typical challenges of life, those experiencing anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, crisis, among other issues. Dr. Krichmar’s particular area of expertise is short-term crisis intervention and therapy. She has extensive experience working with a high-risk population and is well versed in risk assessment and crisis intervention. She easily engages her clients in a therapeutic process and is not afraid to explore and discuss sensitive topics.
Dr. Krichmar thinks outside the box when working to stabilize her clients and engages them in making lasting changes. She teaches clients how to make positive changes by identifying and replacing maladaptive thoughts, patterns, and behaviors. She utilizes each client's strengths to tailor treatment to their own individual needs. Dr. Krichmar’s goal is to provide her clients with skills they can use on their own and also help them identify what is personally meaningful to them, address barriers to life satisfaction and improved relationships.
Dr. Krichmar received her doctorate in Clinical/School Psychology from Hofstra University. Dr. Krichmar was a Director of the Intensive Crisis Stabilization and Treatment (ICST) program at Kings County Hospital Center for over 10 years. She has worked as a consulting psychologist at Columbia University Irving Medical Center Student Counseling Services, and has been in private practice for over 15 years.
