CRISIS INTERVENTION

Mental health crisis can occur unexpectedly and can be overwhelming, leading clients or parents to seek immediate treatment for themselves or their children and teens, usually in an inpatient setting. Dr. Krichmar has extensive experience doing risk assessments, providing crisis intervention and evidenced-based therapy in private practice, outpatient, home-based and school/college counseling center settings for children, teens and adults from ethnically and socio-economically diverse backgrounds, who are undergoing psychological, behavioral, and/or social-emotional difficulties.

Dr. Krichmar's expertise is working with clients who are often experiencing an acute crisis and who need stabilization in the outpatient setting at the beginning or during their ongoing treatment. In doing crisis intervention, Dr. Krichmar works with the client to determine what they need to ensure their immediate safety and to de-escalate their feelings. She effectively helps the client to express and define the problem, which is causing the immediate crisis, examine alternatives and use coping strategies to reduce immediate distress.
